This must be a very relatable issue…
Having too many ideas…
You? I knew it! Good to know that I am not the only one having that problem. (Or had that problem… As I have found out what to do! Read on to find out what it is…)
I am convinced that if I had the time to work out all my brilliant ideas, that I would be some amazing blog Queen, multinational webshop owner and a super mother! I know, we don’t need to thrive for perfection. But the problem is, that with too many ideas, you are risking that you won’t even get to finish one of them! Now isn’t that a scary thought? All those things you want to do, and feel like you need to do.. It can be very overwhelming, lead to frustration and burn out. So, what are we going to do about that?
First things first:
WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN!
The best thing to start with when you feel overwhelmed with all your ideas, is just to start writing. Grab a pen and start making lists. Start with the easier ones, the task for things to do around the house, personal stuff. You get the focus on what needs to get done. The same thing works for getting hold on all your thoughts and inspiration when it comes to your blog or business.
My advice is, to not do it on your computer or your phone, because that will probably get you distracted. Turn off the radio or tv, and set a timer for 15 minutes and then just start writing. Brainstorm about all the things that you want to work on. Write everything down that pops up in your head, without any judgement. Once you have it on paper you can always scratch it if you decide it is not supposed to be on the list.
MAKE YOUR PRIORITIES!
Once you have it all written down on paper, the first thing you need to do is go through all your ideas and to-do’s and start organizing them. This is the step which helps you get rid of that overwhelmed chaotic feeling in your head. It brings structure to the clutter. It turns all your ideas into a prioritized to-do list of things you need to do, and in what order, for your blog or business.
And when you’re going through your ideas there are a few things you can keep in mind:
- Short term vs long term.. There are things you can do today, this week or this month. But especially if you are making lists for your business or blog, it is good to plan ahead. So when prioritizing your tasks, keep in mind if it is something that you need (or want) to do in the next couple of months, or even year.
- Must do’s vs wanna do’s.. I am sure that with all that inspiration, there are so many things that you would love to do. But there are such things you need to do to help your blog and business going. So, it are the must do’s where you’ll start your list.
Right now, if things are going well for you, you should have already been bringing some structure to your ideas. So it will be easier for you to focus on something. Now you know what you should be doing first, and second, etc. But there is one more step to take..
CREATE A MONTHLY ACTION PLAN
With all your tasks prioritized, and even keeping in mind when it should be done, you can start creating a monthly action plan. This is a great way to make sure that you’re actually going to do something with those wonderful ideas! This monthly game plan will help you stay on track! It helps you stay organized and focused as you’re working on your blog and business.
There should be a balance in your monthly plan between your big ideas and the other things you need to do on a monthly basis for your business. Remember not to forget to put things on your list, like writing a blog post or promoting on social media. And when you’re starting to feel overwhelmed or uncertain about what to work on next, just grab your plan and look at the next thing on your list!
